Duane Thomas LeClere, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died of Parkinson's disease on Jan. 11, 2014, at Northbrook Manor in Cedar Rapids. There will be no formal funeral service; a private burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park
Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Duane was born Sept. 5, 1926, to Thomas L. LeClere and Catherine (Poppe) LeClere in rural Alburnett. He graduated from Coggon High School in 1945 and immediately entered the Army for a brief time. His entire working life was in the dairy industry, progressing from Searle's Dairy to Hometown Dairies to Roberts Dairy. He also operated a home-based wedding photography business for several years.
After retirement, Duane worked steadily as a handyman, specializing in plumbing and painting, interspersed with fishing trips to Canada.
Duane married Marilyn Carstens on Feb. 23, 1952, in Lisbon.
He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Julie LeClere of West Amana; his sons, Craig of West Des Moines and Kurt of Iowa City; three granddaughters, Ellen LeClere of Madison, Wis., McKenna and Carsyn LeClere of West Des Moines; brother, John of Manchester; and sisters, Janette Graham of Gibson and Pauline (Robert) Wyatt of Omaha, Neb.
Duane loved small children, little animals, pick-up trucks, fishing trips and storytelling.
