Lawrence, Patricia Ann Kingsley
Patricia Ann Kingsley Lawrence, 68, of Marion, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at New Beginnings Church, Hiawatha, by Randy Goodson. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center, Hiawatha, with a sharing of memories at 6 p.m. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion.
Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Ann Lawrence and Melynda (Eric) Chrisman, all of Marion; a sister, Sue (Donald) Harms of Novi, Mich.; and a grandson on the way.
Pat was born March 17, 1944, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Gerald and Mildred (Ward) Kingsley. She attended Mackenzie High School in Detroit, graduating in 1961. She then earned her bachelor's degree and secondary teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University and her master of arts in French literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Early in her career, she taught at Wartburg College, but spent most of her professional life teaching high school French in South Carolina. Pat was an amazing teacher with a gift for inspiring her students.
She was married to Kenneth Lawrence, father of Margaret and Melynda. They later separated. Pat was a member of New Beginnings Church. She was a lifelong learner who enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and collecting pottery. Her beautiful personality will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials are suggested to New Beginnings Church or Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center.
