Lawrence "Larry" "Sonny" Gouchee, 90, of Lisbon, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, by the Rev. John R. Flaherty. Visitation: two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with military honors: St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon.
Survivors include his son, Kevin, of Lisbon; brother-in-law, Richard (Sandy) Nost; other family, Leigh Ann (Dean) Baxa, Becky (Ronnie) Baxa and Brooke (Rick) Scott; and many extended family members, nieces, nephews and friends.
Lawrence Donald Gouchee was born March 16, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, to Lawrence and Irma (Miller) Gouchee. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1945, then joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a fireman until 1948. He began working for Rockwell in 1951 and retired in 1987 after 36 years. Larry enjoyed boating and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, especially football and wrestling. He was a devout Catholic, and always would lend a helping hand to those who needed one. He belonged to the Lisbon American Legion and volunteered for Optimus.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Floyd (Sue), Bev (Bill) Sailor and Sharon Nost; and special friend, Kaye Bowers.
Memorials may be directed to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon, or the Lisbon American Legion.
