Lawrence James “Larry” McNabb, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. No services are scheduled. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, assisted the family.
Lawrence was born May 3, 1946, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Robert and Patricia (Baldwin) McNabb. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1964. On April 12, 1969, Lawrence was united in marriage to Deanna Otto. He continued his education at the University of Iowa, where he received his B.A. in political science in 1971, Master’s in history in 1976, and Ph.D. in education administration in 1988. From 1971 until his retirement in 2007, he dedicated himself to teaching and coaching as well as being a principal and a superintendent. Lawrence had a passion for genealogy and family history. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Deanna McNabb; daughter, Amy (McNabb) Jabens and her husband, Daniel; grandchildren, Clay, Kayla and Carly; siblings, Carole Thomas, Bill (Wanita) McNabb, Shelly (Wayne) Baker and Rick McNabb; in-laws, Richard (Carol) Otto, Jerry (Susan) Otto and Randy Otto; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Patricia; mother and father-in-law, Ed and Lois Otto; and sisters, Linda McNabb and Theresa Waln.
