Lawrence J. "Whitey" Breer, 90, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Private family services will take place.
Lawrence was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Lewisville, Minn., the son of William and Elizabeth (Reiland) Breer. He was raised on a farm near Lewisville and graduated from Elkton High School in Elkton, Minn. On Nov. 29, 1947, Lawrence married Shirley Williams in Grand Meadow, Minn.
Whitey worked a job for many years that he loved commercial construction, and was a member of Local 1238 for over 50 years. He retired in 1984.
In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, fishing, camping and dancing.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Iowa City; their three children, William Breer of Solon, Kathryn (John) Wiley of Walford and Sherryl Eakes of Iowa City; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother, two sisters and a son-in-law.
