LaVone Luther, 94, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Jan. 20, 2022, at Meth-Wick Community. Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 29, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A livestream of the service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for LaVone Luther, under the video tab starting at 1 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2022. The family requests anyone attending
the funeral wear a mask, and due to COVID-19 there will be no visitation before or after the service.
LaVone Ardell Chermak was born June 15, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Joseph and Alta (Bleedner) Chermak. She graduated from Franklin High School and attended Cornell College.
LaVone was united in marriage to Dean Luther on June 27, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. She was a lifelong member of Kenwood United Methodist Church. LaVone and Dean built and maintained an Amway Distributorship since 1959. While living at Meth-Wick Community for 23 years she volunteered in many capacities. LaVone was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved spending time with her family and kept up with all their activities and accomplishments.
Those left to cherish LaVone's memory are her children, Diane (Richard) Luther of Galena, Ill., Donna (Kermit) Jelmeland of Anamosa and Dave (Linda) Luther of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Luther of Rosemount, Minn., Nicole (Matt) Creswell of Reinbeck, Stacia (Andy) Stroud of Dewitt, Abby (Brandon) Scheitlin of Cedar Rapids and Haley (Sheyenne) McNulty of Atkins; and great-grandchildren, Dylan and Brody Luther, Tyson and Paige Creswell, Drew, Talia and Jonathan Stroud, Jordan, Lincoln and Natalie McNulty.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and her son, Dale.
As her final gift LaVone has donated her body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program.
Memorial donations may be directed to Meth-Wick Community or UnityPoint Hospice.
