LaVon Pasker
LAVON PASKER
Monticello
LaVon M. Pasker, 95, of Monticello, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at the home of her daughter, Donna Cowen, in Huntington Beach, Calif. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate.
LaVon was born March 29, 1919, in Cascade, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Calista (Shaefer) Kremer. She graduated from St. Martin's High School in 1938. In 1941, she married Gerald Pasker at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade. After the war, the couple settled in Monticello where Gerry started his business, Energy Manufacturing. Mr. Pasker was killed in a plane crash in 1964 and LaVon became president of Energy, a role she held until the business was sold in 1985.
LaVon was as generous as she was shy. She could be relied upon to contribute to a variety of community projects: Monticello Pool, the fire department, Camp Courageous, Monticello Airport, Jones County Ducks Unlimited, the fund to rebuild Lake Delhi and especially Sacred Heart Parish. She also established Pasker Prairie with the Jones County Conservation board. Her generosity also extended to her family and friends.
She enjoyed traveling. With Gerry she went on safari in Africa and continued around the world. She also made trips to Europe, the Middle East, South America, Alaska and made numerous trips to visit her children and grandchildren. Of course, she especially loved her trips to Las Vegas.
Her greatest joy was entertaining her family and friends at her place on Lake Delhi which she did with style and grace for over 40 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Jean Pasker of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Sondra (Robert) Fletcher of Cedar Rapids, Beverly (Gordon) Richardson of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Donna (Stan) Cowen of Huntington Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Stephanie (Russ) Wielgos of Bentonville, Ark., Sondra (Matt) Snelson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Sigrid (Dan) McCawley of Fort Lauderdale, Michelle McEnany of Urbandale, Michael Fletcher of Cedar Rapids, Sean Cowen of Hicksville, Ohio, Jamin Cowen of Reno, Nev., Aaron (Lena) Cowen of Irvine, Calif., Adam (Jennifer) Cowen of Seattle, Wash., Jerry (Mel) Pasker of Monticello, Matt (Kelly) Pasker of Palo and Sarah Pasker of Monticello; a brother, Henry (Jackie) Kremer of Cascade; a brother-in-law, Bill Rauen of Dubuque; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; a son, Gary Pasker; brothers, James, Jack and Nic Kremer; and sisters, Margaret Mausser, Esther Schemmel and Carolyn Schemmel.
Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Camp Courageous of Iowa or another local charitable organization of the donor's choice.
