Lavon Luella Linderwell, 98, of Marion, formerly of Strawberry Point, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the chapel. Inurnment will follow at 3 p.m. at Strawberry Point Cemetery.
She is survived by her children, Beverly (Eugene) Johnson of Cedar Rapids and Leon (Vicki) Linderwell of Fullerton, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Lavon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Linderwell; a son, Russell Linderwell; and a brother, Leon "Bud" Steward.
Lavon was born Jan. 7, 1919, the daughter of Howard and Clara (Haufle) Steward in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Lavon attended Strawberry Point High School and graduated with the Class of 1936. Lavon taught rural school for two years before she married Harold Linderwell on June 7, 1939, in Strawberry Point. To this union three children were born: Beverly, Russell and Leon. Harold and Lavon farmed seven years and bought the Sunlight Dairy from her parents. In the 1960s, Lavon began teaching again and working nights with Harold. She even took college classes and received her bachelor's degree in 1970.
Lavon was active in Camp Fire Girls, was a den mother in Scouts, church work, charter member of the Lioness Club and taxi for umpteen school activities. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, PEO and Order of the Eastern Star, Del-Clay Retired Teachers and Ruth Circle at CCC Methodist Church, Strawberry Point Lioness Club and All Church Singles of Cedar Rapids.
Lavon enjoyed her beloved friends and family, traveling, playing cards, cooking, reading, music and life in general by doing volunteer work.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
