LaVerne Crowley, 88, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, where friends may register after 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Castle Grove, with military honors at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where a parish vigil service will be held at
3 p.m.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Mary Jane; three children, Vicki Crowley and Judi (Doug) Kelley, all of Marion, and Bill Crowley of Coggon; two grandchildren, Morgan and Micaela (Cale Loewen) Kelley; his brother, Harold Crowley of Marion; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob (Myrna) McDonough of Salem, Ill., Bill (Beth) McDonough of Chandler, Ariz., and Grace McDonough of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharon; his mother and father-in-law, Ernest and Dorie McDonough; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Carol McDonough, Don McDonough and Mary Jane Crowley.
LaVerne Joseph Crowley was born on the family farm in Linn County, Iowa. He was the son of John and Alice (McCrea) Crowley. LaVerne attended the rural schools near his home. He served in the United States Army during World War II. After returning from the service, LaVerne continued to work on the family farm until age 84, when he moved to Marion in 2011.
LaVerne married Mary Jane McDonough on Sept. 24, 1952, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Castle Grove. He was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Castle Grove. He had currently attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion.
