LaVerne “Bud” Beeler, 93, longtime resident of Iowa City, passed away March 31, 2023, at Solon Care Center.
A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Private family burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
Bud was born on Nov. 5, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Ed and Bertha (Blaha) Beeler. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Iowa City. Bud married Mildred Zinkula on Jan. 18, 1950, and together raised their two daughters before she passed away in 1970.
Bud worked various jobs throughout his life. He went from delivering flowers to working as a car mechanic and electrician before spending several years at Nagle Lumber and Haman Hardware until retiring in 1987.
He was a longtime member and usher of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Swenka of Iowa City, Iowa, and Sherry (Robert) Farris of Fort Myers, Fla.; six grandchildren, Monica (Mike) Reardon, Troy Brumley, Ben Swenka, Chad (Amanda Hammond) Swenka, Heather (Eric) Jackson and Matthew Farris; 13 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Ryan, Austin, Brice, Olivia, Ethan, Jack, Caleb, Alex, Brody, Pearl, Louis and Hugh; and one great-great-granddaughter, Jordyn.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife; special friend, Jean Mahanna; and son-in-law, Dennis Swenka.
