Lavern C. Wenndt, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, in Mercy Medical Center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 3275 N. Center Point Rd., Cedar Rapids, IA 52411. Pastor Mark Halvorson will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Lowden.
Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Eleanor "Ellie" Wenndt; a son, Sharm (Diana) Wenndt of Davenport; a daughter, Cindy L. (Todd) Hutcheson of Marion; his brothers, Lawrence (Karen) Wenndt of Norcrosse, Ga., and David (Donna) Wenndt of Kent, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Karen (Don) Mueller of Minneapolis, Minn.; a grandson, Tige Hutcheson of Mankato, Minn.; a granddaughter, Allie Hutcheson of Marion; a grandson, Trey Hutcheson of Marion; and many nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arlyn and Delbert Wenndt.
Lavern was born Aug. 31, 1932, in Lowden, Iowa, the son of Carl H. and Minnie (Deerberg) Wenndt. He married Eleanor "Ellie" Licht on Aug. 31, 1958, in the Stanwood Lutheran Church in Stanwood. Lavern was production control manager at Cherry Burrell (Evergreen), retiring in 1997. After retiring, he worked for the Wilson Avenue Hy-Vee Food Store in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church and a St. Luke's SHIPP volunteer. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict.
