Laurie Jean Barrett, 62, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Visitation: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will immediately follow at noon at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and socially distance.
Laurie was born Jan. 26, 1959, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Clara (Thraen) Inman. She graduated from Atlantic High School and attended the University of Iowa and Mount Mercy College. Laurie married Dennis E. Barrett on May 8, 1982, in Atlantic, Iowa. She worked as a CNA at Northbrook Nursing Home and retired in 2017.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Barrett; children, Elizabeth (James Nagel) Barrett of Cedar Rapids, Matthew Barrett of North Liberty, Iowa, and Andrew Barrett of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Daniel Barrett, Kaelie Nagel and Bina Nagel; and siblings, Larry (MaryEllen) Inman of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Judith Jenkins of Rochester, Minn., James (Alice) Inman of Kansas City, Mo., Gerald (Connie) Inman of Garland, Texas, and David (Jackie) Inman of Fairview, Texas.
Laurie was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Judy Inman; and brother-in-law, George Jenkins.
