Laura R. Maiers, 91, of Dubuque, formerly of New Vienna, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at Luther Manor in Dubuque surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave. SW, Dyersville. Visitation will continue at
9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Resurrection Church in Dubuque, prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will
be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery, New Vienna. The Rev. Joseph Hauer will officiate.
Laura was born May 25, 1925, in New Vienna, the daughter of Anton and Mary (Sandman) Mescher. She graduated in 1943 from St. Boniface High School. Following her mother's death in 1944, she stayed home to care for her three younger siblings and her dad, whose care she continued to provide until his death in 1975. On Oct. 2, 1950, she married Eddie Maiers in New Vienna. In addition to her tireless care and love for her family, she owned and operated Kustom Plastics for 20 years. Laura was a charter member of the Edward W. Lake VFW Auxiliary Post 7736
Laura is survived by her husband, Eddie; children, Jim (Barb) of Dubuque, Gary (Diane) of Plymouth, Minn., Dave (Shirley) of Bloomington, Minn., Tom (Deb) of Rochester, Minn., Marty (Ann) of Iowa City, Bill (Sandi) of Cedar Falls and Don (AJ) of Cedar Rapids; 21 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Laura is also survived by her brother, Al (Vi) Mescher; and sister, Rose Johanningmeier of Dubuque; brothers- and sisters-in-law include Marion Mescher of Melbourne, Australia, Fran Mescher, Leon Maiers, Clete (Shirley) Maiers, Al (Pat) Maiers, all of Dubuque, Eileen Kluesner of Farley and Norma Maiers of Dyersville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and their spouses, Herb (Irene), Vince (Lucille), Elmer, Ray, Eddie (Anna Jane), Don (Betty) and Bob (Peggy); sisters, Alma (Jim) Healy and Arlene (Dick) Southwell; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Elmer Johanningmeier, Harriet Maiers, Wilmer Maiers and Jerry Kluesner.
The family greatly appreciates the wonderful care provided by Luther Manor and Hospice of Dubuque.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Luther Manor, Church of the Resurrection, St. Boniface Church or Beckman High School.
