Laura Lee Hidder, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died unexpectantly Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. George Orthodox Church. The Rev. Fred Shaheen will officiate. Burial: St. George Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, where there will be a Trisagion service at 7 p.m. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivor include four sons, Steven (Julie) of Ankeny, Thomas (Kathy) of Wilmette, Ill., David of Elgin, Ill., and Gregory of Phoenix; and a sister, Vonda Freeman of Florida. She also is survived by 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; four brothers, Lloyd, Lynn, Kenneth and Virgil Freeman; and one sister, Jeannine Nielson.
Laura was born Oct. 3, 1930, in Marion, the daughter of Ethmer and Laura Stobaugh Freeman. She married Ernest E. Hidder on Nov. 14, 1953, in Denver, Colo. Ernie and Laura were happily married until his passing in 2005.
Laura worked in merchandising at Hy-Vee Drug Store, retiring from there in 1999, after more than 28 years of service.
She was a faithful member of St. George Orthodox Church, where she had taught Sunday school and was a member of the church auxiliary. Laura enjoyed cooking, baking and especially the time spent with her many friends and beloved family.
She was truly devoted to her husband and family, will be greatly missed, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. George Cemetery Fund.
