Laura Belle Schappert, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away at Corridor Crossing Place on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023. Visitation will be held at CrossLife Community Church on Friday, Sept. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m., with service to follow at 11 a.m. Services will be overseen by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Laura was born on April 20, 1938, to George and Rosena Kinsel. She was the youngest of nine children. She briefly attended college in Wisconsin and then worked at Black’s Department Store in Waterloo as well as Collins Radio. She married Arnold Schappert on Sept. 7, 1963. They were married for 58 years, until his death. They had two sons, Brian and Darrin. She loved her family and friends.
Laura started a new career in 1978, driving a school bus for the Cedar Rapids Schools. She worked there until her retirement. She was a den mother in the Cub Scouts, took care of her disabled sister, sold flower arrangements and created other home items through the years. She was also a fan of the Hawkeyes. She attended CrossLife Community Church.
She is survived by her son, Darrin (Angie) Schappert.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; son, Brian; her parents, George and Rosena Kinsel; and her siblings, Fern, Juanita, Carl, Diane, Orville, Viola, Verla and Faye.
The family wishes to send a special thank-you to the staff at Corridor Crossing Place for their care and kindness.
