Laun, Helen M.
Helen M. Laun, 80, of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Nov. 6, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky., following a short illness. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at First Lutheran Church, where the family requests friends call after noon Wednesday for a light reception before the funeral service. The Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Helen Mackay Laun was born March 8, 1929, the beloved daughter of Robert and Marie (Kohler) Mackay. She was united in marriage to Walter F. Laun Jr. on July 26, 1952, in Chicago. She was employed as a legal secretary in Chicago, Utica, N.Y., and Cedar Rapids. She later became a Realtor and a member of the Cedar Rapids Board of Realtors. In the 1960s, she was a city supervisor for Welcome Wagon, Int. and was active in the Cedar Rapids Community Theatre, performing in the annual Follies. She continued supporting the works of community theater for many years, and attended many performances. She was a longtime member of Elmcrest Country Club and First Lutheran Church.
Helen will forever be remembered for her lively personality, bringing laughter and joy to all who knew her. She lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Deborah Laun and son-in law Walter “Dutch” Kelderman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Walter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Lutheran Church.
