Lau, Keith H.
UPDATED: Keith H. Lau, 78, of Garnavillo, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Lau family farm in rural Guttenberg, following a brief illness. Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 001 S. Industrial Park Rd., Garnavillo, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader, with Father Paul Peters officiating. Interment will be at Garnavillo Community Cemetery, Garnavillo.
He was born the son of Herbert and Florence (Herman) Lau on March 8, 1932, near Littleport, Iowa. Keith attended country school and graduated from the Garnavillo High School in 1949. He then served his country in the Army during the Korean conflict, from 1952 to 1954. On July 27, 1953, he was united in marriage with Valene Siebrecht at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader. He farmed and was an agency manager for Farm Bureau Insurance Agency in Vinton for 31 years.
He was a member of the Farm Bureau board, District Board for the Iowa Conservation Service, North East Iowa Antique Association, Clay-Gar American Legion Post No. 723, and a Garnavillo Booster member. He enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and spending time in the woods, especially mushroom hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Valene; three daughters, Linda (Gary) Hansen of Alton, LuAnn (Don) Hicks of Cody, Wyo., and Lisa (Paul) Haller of Minneapolis, Minn.; three sons, Kevin (Kimberly) Lau of Elkader, Kris Lau of Guttenberg, and Kurt (Amy) Lau of Clive; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Hansen, Kelsey Hansen, Jenna Hansen, Adam Lau, Grace Lau, Maggie Haller, Ming Li Haller, Michael Lau, Thomas Lau and Elizabeth Lau; one sister, Nancy Saboe of West Union; stepgrandchildren Kylie (Wes) Hanson, Jeff Haller, Zach Haller, Wendy Haller and Taylor Haller; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Kassi Hanson; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ivanelle Sutherland; and grandson, Christian Benjamin Lau.
