Laton, Doris J.
Doris J. Laton, 90, died Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2012, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., in Vinton, with Pastor Zach Zajicek officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
A memorial fund has been established.
Doris was born Feb. 26, 1922, in Waterloo, to Frank B. and Lena M. (Baker) Summy. Following graduation from high school she then attended Cedar Rapids Business College. On Oct. 19, 1941, she was united in marriage to Leland L. Laton in Cedar Rapids. Doris was employed as a secretary for Bordewick, Fisher and Fisher Law Firm in Vinton for many years before her retirement.
Doris loved singing in her church choir and was a charter member of the Vinton Sweet Adelines and a member of the Benton Community Choir. She had also enjoyed roller skating, gardening, sewing, reading, quilting, and crossword puzzles.
Doris is survived by her husband of 71 years, Leland Laton of Vinton; her son, Richard “Rick” (Marsha) Laton of Princeton, Ill.; her daughters, Sandra (Larry) Driscol of Vinton and Kathryn (Randy) Olson of Washington; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; her half brother, William “Bill” (Mary) Summy of Vinton; and her stepsister, Nadine (Robert) Hannaman of Vinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Warren “Bud” Summy.
