Lasansky, Mauricio L.
Mauricio L. Lasansky, 97, of Iowa City, died peacefully Monday morning, April 2, 2012, at home surrounded by family. A family committal service has been held at Oakland Cemetery.
Mauricio was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the son of Abraham and Ana Kahan Lasansky. Mauricio was united in marriage to Emilia Barragan on Dec. 16, 1937. Mauricio and Emilia were partners in every part of their lives, always loving and respectful of each other.
He will be greatly missed.
Mauricio was the Virgil M. Hancher Professor Emeritus, The University of Iowa, where he was a professor and head of printmaking in the School of Art and Art History for more than 40 years.
Survivors include their six children: William (Jeannette) Lasansky of Lewisburg, Pa., and their daughter, Diana; Rocio “Nina” (Alan) Weinstein of Iowa City, and their children, Rachael, Anna Daniel and Adam; Leonardo Lasansky of St. Paul, Minn., and his son, Amadeo; Jimena Lasansky and William Sepe of Rockport, Maine, and their son, Richie; Phillip (Lori) Lasansky and their sons, Emiliano and Diego, and Thomas (Charlie) Lasansky and their son, Rory, all of Iowa City; and four great-grandchildren.
Mauricio was preceded in death by his wife, Emilia; his parents and his siblings.
The family would like to thank Camila Talamilla and all of the others who assisted with his care.
