The Rev. Michael Metz will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and at the church after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include a son, Craig (Nita) of Muscatine; and a daughter, Julie (Rob) Schwartz of Sheridan, Wyo. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Natalie and Christopher Larson; and two stepgrandchildren, Joe and Otto Schwartz.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola; a brother, Lawrence; and three sisters, Bessie Ross, Edith Rassmussen and Elsie Rogers.
Lloyd was born in rural Benton County, Iowa, the son of Chris and Martha Larson, on May 27, 1919. He graduated from Newhall High School in 1936 and from the University of Iowa in 1940, with a Bachelor of Sciencein Commerce degree, majoring in accounting. While at the University of Iowa he was a classmate and acquaintance of Nile Kinnick, an honor he treasured.
He married Lola Hauser on Sept. 20, 1941, in Van Horne. They lived in Chicago while Lloyd worked for the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation of Gary, Ind. Lloyd served in the United States Army during World War II, graduating from Officer Candidate School in 1946. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Lloyd and Lola settled in Cedar Rapids, where Lloyd took a job with a fledgling company, Collins Radio, now RockwellCollins. He worked for Collins Radio for 23 years as an accounting supervisor.
Lloyd and Lola then opened Lloyd's Fish and Chips in Cedar Rapids, expanding the business to include two shops. They later sold the business and Lloyd took a position with J-Tek Associates Inc., where he worked as controller until his retirement at the age of 72 in 1991.
Lloyd was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church and served in the Methodist Men, including as a financial officer for many years.
Lloyd was an avid Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
He will be remembered by friends and family as an honest, caring father, husband, and grandfather and a dependable hardworking employee. He cherished his poker games and golfing groups. Lloyd's greatest achievement, however, was his dedication, and the self-sacrificing care he gave Lola as she battled multiple sclerosis. His care allowed her to remain in the home until nearly the end of their 66 years of marriage.
He will be greatly missed by his children, their spouses, his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Memorial donations may be given to Iowa City Hospice or Kenwood Park United Methodist Church.
