LARRY ZENOR
Mount Vernon
Larry D. Zenor, 84, of Mount Vernon, passed away July 14, 2017, after an extended illness.
Larry was born June 29, 1933, in Lehigh, Iowa, and raised by his grandparents, who instilled in him a dedication to the family and the Methodist Church. After serving in the Korean War, Larry utilized the GI Bill to fulfill a lifelong passion to help others better themselves through education. Larry spent his career in education from teaching through school administration, last serving as superintendent of schools in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.
Larry enjoyed sports. He coached high school basketball early on, and, along with his wife, Joyce, developed a passion for Iowa wrestling, following the team during retirement. Larry also cherished his friendships made over the years through playing cards, golfing and visiting friends across the country.
Larry is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 60 years; daughter, Marlys (Clay) Kraus; son, Mark (Ginger) Zenor; grandchildren, Alex and Walt Zenor; sister, Jean (Bill) Clark; nephew, Andrew Ditsworth; and sister-in-law, Jean (Max) Fitz.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Evonne Bowers; and sister, Linda Severson.
The Zenor family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Meadowview Memory Care for the care and warmth provided to Larry.
