Larry J. "Stacker" Thompson, 70, passed away suddenly Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Branch Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com. A memorial fund has been established.
Larry James Thompson was born Jan. 29, 1949, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Bruce "Bud" Addison Thompson Jr. and Agnes (Ruzek) Thompson. He was a graduate of West Branch High School in 1967. He served in the Iowa Army National Guard for 22 years. On Jan. 28, 2006, he was united in marriage to Janet Siegling in Las Vegas.
He was a lifelong resident of West Branch, currently residing in Cedar Bluff. Larry farmed and operated Larry Thompson Trucking, hauling grain for many years. He was a member of West Branch American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and camping and spending time around the fire. He was an Iowa Hawkeye fan, member of the Classy Chassis Cruisers and participated in the WMT Tractorcade.
Survivors include his wife, Janet of Cedar Bluff; children, Troy Thompson of West Branch and Lori (Guy Bein) Roenfeldt of Atalissa; son-in-law, Casey Hesseltine of Atalissa; sister, Linda Hatfield of Rockford, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Eric (Courtney), Mitchell, Kylie, Jordan, Tanner, Sidney, Alexandria, Kennedy, Andilyn and August; and four great-grandchildren, Cadence, Casper, Memphis and Evelyn.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nicki; and a sister, Lorene.
