Larry Walter Slaymaker, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died in his home on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where a visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Jeff Bell from Westdale Community Church will officiate.
Survivors include his wife, Lila L. Slaymaker; his daughters, Sara J.
(Scotty) Slaymaker of
Cedar Rapids and Shelly (Jeffrey) Schrupp of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; his siblings, Janey (Jim) Polesky of Ohio, Brian (Elaine) Slaymaker of Marengo, Norman (Cindy) Slaymaker of Williamsburg and Roy (Linda) Slaymaker of Ottumwa; and his granddaughter, Ellie Schrupp of Mount Pleasant, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Peyton Anthony Hill.
Larry was born March 13, 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of
Walter and Melvay (Estridge) Slaymaker. He and Lila
Osborne met in April 1977 and were married in April 1984 in Cedar Rapids. Larry worked for Iowa Steel, Harnischfeger, Cedar Rapids INC and retired from Nelson Trucking in 2013. He was a quiet hardworking husband and father. He was quite the handyman and able to fix anything. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
