Larry Renfer Sr., 77, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, at Manor Care Nursing Home. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial with military honors will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Larry Renfer Sr. was born Aug. 6, 1941, to Franklin C. and Maxine (Pollack) Renfer in Central City, Iowa. Following graduation from high school, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served during the Vietnam conflict. He was united in marriage to Mary C. Brown on Feb. 17, 1961, in Seattle, Wash. Larry enjoyed all things outdoors, including camping, fishing, hunting and mushroom hunting. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and son and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; children, Larry E. Jr. (significant other, Nancy), Kelly Novak (Doug) and Cindy Weiland (John); 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; three siblings, Judy Kula (Ken), Jerry (Linda) and Joanne Shedak (Kevin); and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William.
The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice and Manor Care for all their wonderful care of Larry.
