Larry Lyle Bowers, 90, of Center Point, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away from this life on Monday, April 8, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, where a Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Casey Reinkoester will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Dunkard Cemetery in Toddville, Iowa.
Larry entered this world on June 28, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Henry and Irene (Thayer) Bowers. On October 21, 1950, Larry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Lou Williams at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Larry served in the United States Army, for three years, until he was honorably discharged in January of 1954. He retired from Iowa Manufacturing and went on to work at Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa, and continued until he turned 80 years old. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Larry was a man of integrity and respect for others. He found beauty in nature by nurturing his yard and garden, as only a gardener can understand. He will be remembered for his keen memory and his special cards that spoke volumes of the love he had for his family and how special they are. Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Larry is survived and lovingly remembered by his five children, Sandy (Rick) Freese, Steven Bowers, Dixie (Bill) Heineman, Mary (Dennis) Beadle, and Herbert Bowers; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 61 years, Mary Bowers; and one grandson, Christopher Neagle.
Memorials in Larry’s memory may be directed to the family to be designated later.
Dad, your guiding hand is on our shoulders forever.
