LARRY LUZUM

Larry F. Luzum, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 4, 2015. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7,
at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.
Survivors include wife, Kathy of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Heather (Bill) Byrd of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Elliott, Nicole and Sarah Byrd, all of Houston; sister, Marilyn Klimesh of Cedar Rapids; brother, Dick (Diane) Luzum of Calmar; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daryl Luzum; and brother-in-law, James Klimesh.
Larry was born Oct. 16, 1945, in Decorah, Iowa, son of Leonard and Ethel (Huinker) Luzum. He served in the Air Force from 1963 to 1968. Larry married Kathy Simmons on Dec. 18, 1998, in Cedar Rapids. He worked in the warehouse at General Mills for 38 years.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Larry enjoyed golfing, softball and bowling. He enjoyed watching Cubs baseball, the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy and American Cancer Society.
A special thanks to Dr. Rasa Butinas, PCI Hematology & Oncology, and ALL the nurses and staff; nurses and patient techs at St. Luke's 5 Center; St. Luke's Palliative Care; nurses at St. Luke's Infusion Center; Dr. Jason Cogdill & Associates; all of the PCI physicians; Dr. Daniel VandenBosch of UnityPoint Clinic-Westside; those at Hospice of Mercy who were there to help in his final weeks; and a special thank you to Penny Ackerman, one of St. Patrick's Church pastoral ministers, for all your weekly stops and all you did in his final months.
