Larry Dean Kirkpatrick died at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the age of 79 years.
Larry was born Nov. 15, 1934, in Washington, Iowa,
the son of Homer and Dortha (Long) Kirkpatrick. Larry grew up in North English and graduated from North English High School in 1952. He was active in sports and especially enjoyed basketball and also playing the clarinet.
Larry's family operated a feed and grain business and he helped his father with his business. On June 21, 1953, he was united in marriage to Betty Mae Popham in North English.
In 1959, he built Kirkpatrick Feed Mill and operated it for many years. His brother, Don, worked with him for several years.
Larry was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a former member of Odd Fellows Lodge, a North English Cooperative Telephone board member and a longtime North English businessman.
He enjoyed boating on the Mississippi and flying and giving rides in his airplane.
Larry became a resident of Highland Ridge in Williamsburg in October 2012.
He is survived by three sons, Jeff (Karen) Kirkpatrick of Cedar Rapids, Thom (Carol) Kirkpatrick of Hills and Brad (Jeanette) Kirkpatrick of Tipton; eight grandchildren, Molly Rechkemmer, Justin Kirkpatrick, Joshua Kirkpatrick, Chris Michael, Levi Kirkpatrick, Stacey Huedepohl, Vanessa Shipley and Jack Shipley; and six great-grand-children, Gracie, Sam, Hannah, Kate, Luke and Luke. Also surviving are a sister, Darlene (Gene) Popham of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; and a brother, Don (Donna) Kirkpatrick of Williamsburg.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty in March 2003; a sister, Marilyn Garr-inger; and a daughter-in-law, Jody Kirkpatrick.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Pastor Edwin Jordan will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at the funeral home. Burial will be in North English Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to English Valleys Dollars for Scholars.
