Larry Joel Allen, 84, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Silver Oak Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time. He will be buried at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in Solon, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Larry was born on February 14, 1941, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Joel Richard and Erna L. (Switzer) Allen. Growing up, Larry had a fascination with trains. His dad was a Railroad Depot Agent. He was a 1959 graduate of Maquoketa High School. After graduation, Larry attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. In 1962, he entered the United States Navy and served as a Hospital Corpsman. On December 9, 1962, Larry was united in marriage to Carol Jean Louvar in Solon. In 1966, Larry was honorably discharged from the Navy and moved back to Iowa. For 30 years, he was employed with Collins Radio, which then became Rockwell Collins, until his retirement in 1997. During his time with Rockwell, Larry earned his bachelor’s degree in science and master’s degree in human resources. After retiring, he enjoyed researching genealogy and reading a lot of books. Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Larry is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Carol Allen of Marion; three children, Laura Gose of Hope Mills, North Carolina, Kevin (Mary) Allen of Casa Grande, Arizona, and Michael Allen of Marion; five grandchildren, John (Paulette) Gose, Amanda (Michael) Alerieff, Jeremiah Gose, Mitchell (Briana) Allen, and Daniel (Dasia) Allen; and two great-grandsons, Daniel Gose and Mazzi Gose.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Silver Oak Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the love, care, and support they gave Larry during his stay.
