Larry James Peden, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Aug. 2, 2023. In honor of Larry’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Larry was born March 7, 1946, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Henry and Esther (Mason) Peden. He married Barbara Boesenberg on Jan. 22, 1977, and together they raised their family in Cedar Rapids. After he graduated from Olin High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and served two tours where he received the Bronze Star. When he returned to Cedar Rapids he worked as an audio technician before he purchased the Tastee Freez on 42nd St., which he owned and operated for over a decade.
He enjoyed spending his time traveling, boating, gardening and working on his farm in Olin.
Larry is survived by his wife, Barb; daughters, Nichole (Matt) Felker and Angela (Chad) Hoyt; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Erik and Bryce.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald; and his in-laws, Henry and Irene Boesenberg.
