Larry "Jake" Jacobs, 70, of Mechanicsville died Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Mechanicsville Nursing & Rehab, following an extended illness. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
Survivors include his son, Les "Jake" (Shannon) Jacobs of Virginia; daughter, Lara (Aaron) Page of Missouri; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; stepdaughter, Donna Wood; and stepgrandson, Paul Fugate, both of Mechanicsville.
Also surviving are siblings, Bonnie Lindenmayer of Marengo, Dan Jacobs of Congress, Ariz., Jim (Doris) Jacobs of Cedar Rapids and Kay (Jim) Scott of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Velva Zirklebach; and several nieces and nephews.
Jake was born Oct. 29, 1944, in Marengo, the son of Oliver and Vesper (Jenkins) Jacobs. He graduated from Iowa Valley High School in Marengo in 1965. Jake married Linda Young, later divorcing. He was employed at the Me Too Store in Marengo before it closed, then he worked at several other businesses in the area. He was on the Marengo city council for several years, member of the Rod Hawks and the Jaycees.
Jake later moved and married Belle Wood in 1987. She died in 2009. He worked at Lloyd's Table for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Belle; his parents; brother, Tommy; sister-in-law, Mona Jacobs; and brother-in-law, Fred Lindenmayer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Jake's name to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank or Care Initiatives Hospice.
