LARRY F. MORGAN
Iowa City
Larry F. Morgan, 83, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021, at the Solon Care Center.
Larry was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on July 31, 1937, to Paul and Beulah (Butler) Morgan, the oldest of 10 children. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Janesville High School. He went on to Iowa State University, where he earned a degree in civil engineering.
Larry attended Officer's Candidate School in Newport, R.I. He graduated as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy and served three years on active duty. He proudly remained in the Naval Reserves for over 25 years, retiring as a captain.
As a structural engineer, he spent his working years in the consulting business. Larry was a vice president of Shive Hattery Inc. and office director of the branch in Iowa City, retiring in 2002.
Larry and Rae have been Cyclone football season ticket holders for more than 50 years. Larry would sit through rain and snow to watch his beloved Cyclones. Every fall brought renewed hope, often dashed by October. Larry cherished the annual family "campout" which started as his birthday celebration 45 years ago, a tradition that continues to this day. Larry is immortalized on several family golfing plaques for hitting a hole in one and winning the annual family tournament.
In his retirement years, Larry and wife, Rae, spent their time between Iowa City and a home in Sun City Texas. He was always up for golf or a good game of bridge.
Larry is survived by Rae, his wife of 58 years; son, Tom (Melanie) Morgan of Coralville and daughter, Leslie (Shan) Tague of The Woodlands, Texas; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ben Morgan, and Peyton, Morgan and Addisyn Tague; brother, Dennis Morgan of Longview, Wash.; sisters, Joyce Illian of Norwalk, Iowa, Diann (Dean) Peyton of Des Moines, Iowa, Dinah Faust of Madison, Wis., Michelle (Craig) Neal of Pittsford, N.Y., Lorraine (John) Ward of Coon Valley, Wis., and Paula (Stacey) Walters of Seward, Alaska; sister-in-law, Carol Morgan of Jefferson, Wis.; stepbrother, Jerry (Joanne) Kramer of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and stepsister-in-law, Liz Miller of Cedar Falls, Iowa. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Irene; brother, Gaylin Morgan; sister, Janice Baumgartner; stepbrother, John Kramer; stepsister, Kathy Kramer; sister-in-law, Jana Morgan and brothers-in-law, Jerry Illian and Dick Faust.
Memorial Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 15, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with Father Steve Witt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
