Larry Elias Ellingson, 80, of Howell, Mich., and formerly of Marquette, Mich., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, after a brief illness.
Larry was born Sept. 26, 1941, to the late Herbert and Dorothy Ellingson in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Larry grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Jefferson High School. He attended Coe College for two years and transferred to Westmar College from which he graduated. On Dec. 22, 1962, Larry married Mary Gloege. They raised four children. Larry and Mary moved to East Lansing in 1963, where he attended Michigan State University for two years. After school, he took a job with General Motors at the V-8 Engine Plant in Flint, Mich.
In 1972 Larry changed jobs and went to work for as a revenue officer for the Internal Revenue Service. He worked for them for 30 years until retirement. He received the Albert Gallatin Award for outstanding service to the IRS. In retirement he worked at Marquette Mountain Ski Hill. His hobbies were gardening and woodworking. He was an active church member. He is loved by all and missed very much.
Beloved husband of Mary for 60 years; loving father of Nancy (John) Wilson, Bridgid (Kevin) Rooney, Charles (Patricia) Ellingson and Benjamin Ellingson; proud grandfather of seven; dear brother of Karen Gaddis (the late Butch) and twin brother of Linda Biedenbach (Jack); also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens Cemetery in Negaunee, Mich.
