LARRY D. EILERS
Iowa City
On Feb. 16, 2022, in Iowa City, Iowa, after living a full and Christ-filled life, Larry D. Eilers left this world and was welcomed into the loving arms of Christ. Larry was born May 16, 1938, in Winner, S.D. He worked in education and banking, and then found his true calling in sales, where he excelled as a leader of exceptional talent and ultimately wonderful friendships. Larry and his high school sweetheart, Lu raised their family in Cedar Rapids, and he eventually retired in Santa Barbara, Calif., before moving to Iowa City in 2018 to be with family.
Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Covey Eilers (1937-1990); parents, Ray Eilers and Ava Hamilton Eilers; his second wife, Linda Sever Engel (1942-2004); his son-in-law, Troy Jackson (1968-2019); and many other precious extended family members.
He is survived by his children, Lonnie (Sommerville, Texas) and wife. Lori Eilers, Lee (Iowa City) and wife. Kim Eilers. and Lori Eilers Jackson (Thornton, Colo.); his five grandchildren, Brady, Brooke and Emily Eilers, and Covey and Carley Jackson; and his five great-grandchildren, Harper, Noelle and Smith Eilers, Knox and Barrett Slayman, and a sixth great-granddaughter arriving in April. He is also survived by his third wife, Sondra Stuerman Eilers, residing in Iowa City.
The legacy of love that Larry extended to all of us will carry forward for generations to come. Heartfelt thanks to all who crossed his path for your friendship, prayers, and love of Larry over the years. He was a compassionate and caring man who exuded deep love and passionate grit. He was fair and hardworking, and a man who would defend and protect family and friends like no other. His family loved him as deeply as any man could be loved - what a privilege to do so, and what a joy to know that he is now with the King of Kings for eternity.
Services will be held in Iowa City on April 23. Details will follow on Larry's Facebook page as well as his surviving children's.
