Larry Douglas “Doug” Kimball, 70, of Cedar Rapids, died unexpectedly on Monday, May 3, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Per COVID-19 guidelines, attendees are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
Doug is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margie; sons, Mike (Teri) of West Des Moines and Mark (Cheryl) of Prairie City; daughters, Jennifer (Terry) Pflughaupt of Central City and Julie (Scott) Lindsey of Central City; nine grandchildren, Will, Nick, Max, Josh, Emmet, PJ, Zach, Aaron and Bryanna; four great-grandchildren, Braelynn, Carsyn, Stella and Eastyn; siblings, Robin Albers of Cedar Rapids, Dennis Andrews of Lisbon, Darlene Zbanek of Denver, Colo., and Michael Kimball of Cedar Rapids; Shirley Kimball (Kermit Postier) of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, David, Daniel and Tracy.
Doug was born on Sept. 20, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, son of Henry and Gayle Johnson Kimball Jr. He attended Prairie High School and graduated from the University of Iowa. On Oct. 5, 1968, Doug married Margie McCarthy at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Doug thoroughly enjoyed the retired life; and liked camping, playing golf and winters in Texas. He was a die-hard Hawkeyes fan, and loved to travel and spend time with his friends, family and especially his grandsons. Doug will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
