Langton, Howard R.
MARION - Howard R. Langton, 87, of 345 Marion Blvd., Marion, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a short illness. Graveside services: 10 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Per Howard's request there will be no visitation. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Shirley; a son, Michael (Vickie) of Racine, Wis.; two daughters, Pamela Cummings of Stephenville, Texas and Deborah (David) Rogers of Belvidere, Ill.; a sister, Ernestine Chapel of Alta Loma, Calif.; and a brother, Lee (Betty) of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Tami, Shawn, Amber, Jennie and Brad; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen; and a son-in-law, Ed Cummings.
Howard was born March 16, 1923, in Palo, the son of Roy and Hazel (Corn) Langton. He married Shirley V. Taylor on Aug. 5, 1943, in Cedar Rapids. Howard worked at Allen's for 15 years and later was the owner and operator of Rapids Body and Fender Co.
He was a member of Marion American Legion Post 298, Hawkeye Downs Hall of Fame and proudly served in the Army during World War II. He enjoyed piloting his own plane, racing cars at Hawkeye Downs, and in later years, driving with Shirley in their motor home to winter in Arizona.
Howard was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed by his beloved family and many friends.
