Langston, Clarence Fred
Clarence Fred Langston, 95, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at Mount Calvary Cemetery with the Rev. David O'Connor officiating.
Fred was born in Checotah, Okla., in 1917. He grew up in Muskogee, Okla., where he delivered telegrams by bicycle. Fred went to work on the railroad and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1940 and was stationed in Oklahoma, Alaska and Colorado as a theater projectionist. He moved to Independence, Iowa, after his discharge in 1944 and worked as projectionist at Malek Theater. He then attended electronics school in Chicago and Louisville. In 1963, he married Wilma (Jean) Kremer and got a job with Collins Radio (Rockwell) in Cedar Rapids and moved there.
He loved going for walks, telling stories, filming movies and animals.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews
His mother, Jennie (Houston); father, Samuel Langston; brother, Earl Langston; and wife, Wilma (Jean) Kremer Langston, preceded him in death.
