Langenberg, Thomas W. 'Tom'
Thomas W. “Tom” Langenberg, 87, of 1020 S. Scott Blvd., Iowa City, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lone Tree, with Father William Kneemiller officiating. Burial will be at Lone Tree Cemetery. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City.
Tom was born Jan. 9, 1924, in Iowa City, the son of Louis and Flora (Deatsch) Langenberg and the youngest of 12 children. He was a 1941 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Iowa City. Tom married Leone Bunte on June 30, 1951, in Cedar Rapids. They had celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Tom was a member of St. Mary's Church and Lions Club International. He volunteered with Julies Fountain of Flowers in Lone Tree and volunteered his time in the installation of Lifeline units for Mercy Hospital. Tom farmed for many years on the family farm west of Iowa City, near Solon and Hubbard. He was a petroleum salesman for Farm Service after they moved to Lone Tree in 1959. Tom drove a school bus for the Lone Tree School and Johnson County SEATS. Tom and Leone moved to Legacy Pointe in 2002.
Tom had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed woodworking, cryptograms, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and feeding the birds at Legacy Pointe. He was an avid Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include his wife, Leone; his daughter, Ann (Mrs. Frank) Wiederrecht of Douglas, Wyo.; three grandchildren, Danny, Missy and Kari; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lone Tree First Responders, Lone Tree Senior Dining, St. Mary's Church in Lone Tree and Visiting Nurses Association.
