Landis, Royal Richard
Royal Richard Landis, 88, of Monticello, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, at the United Church of Monticello, where military honors will be accorded following the service. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
Surviving are his wife, Verona; five children, Nena (George) Robertson and Susan (George) McBee, both of Bellevue, Wash., Jessica (Douglas) Guilford, Strawberry Point, Dr. Bruce (Betty) Landis, Elkader, and James (Kay) Landis, Belmont, Wis.; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dr. Marilyn Hauser, Sarasota, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, LaVonne Zwally; and a brother, Carlton Landis.
Royal Richard Landis was born Dec. 31, 1923, at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Mae (Hubbard) Landis. Royal Richard Landis and Verona Kromminga were married April 7, 1943. Royal was an industrial engineer at Energy Manufacturing in Monticello for 37 years.
