Lana De Wees
Lana De Wees
Mound, MN
Lana De Wees, 83, formerly of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away April 26, 2025, following a long illness.
Lana was born the daughter of Alfred and Juanita De Wees, in Iowa City, IA, on October 9, 1941.
Lana grew up and spent the majority of her life living in Cedar Rapids. A graduate of Jefferson High School, Lana worked for many years as a kindergarten aide in the Cedar Rapids School District and upon “retirement” moved on to her new career working with residents at Cottage Grove Place whom she would often refer to as her second family.
Lana enjoyed traveling, visiting historical sites, watching Britcoms on PBS and spent an extensive amount of time researching her family’s genealogy while listening to CDs featuring any member(s) of “her guys” aka The Three Tenors.
Those that knew Lana knew that, aside from her granddaughter, her greatest joys in life were children and her faith. In addition to her decades of service within the school district, Lana was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where she often volunteered and taught Sunday school to three-year-olds for over forty years. Lana took great pride in her longevity in this servant role and in many instances taught the children of students who had previously passed through her classroom.
Lana’s warmth, generosity, smile and quick wit will be missed.
Lana is survived by son Stephen (Jennifer), granddaughter Julia of Medina, MN, and brother Don (Kathy), of Indianapolis, IN.
Memorial donations in Lana’s name can be made to the Children's Youth Fund at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church via https://onrealm.org/crstpaulsumc/-/form/give/now .
