LaMere, Richard L.
Richard L. LaMere, 85, a resident of Summit Pointe Senior Living Community, Marion, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, with military honors. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to service time on Friday. Private burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Richard was born July 4, 1926, the son of Lawrence and Minnie (Oestriech) LaMere in Prairie du Chien, Wis. He married Evelyn Darlene Ritter on Dec. 11, 1948, in Marion. Richard served in the Pacific Theater in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a millwright at Penick & Ford for 37 years.
He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, loved racing and was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed wood working.
He is survived by his children, Jackie (Darwin) Hopper of Springville, Ray (Mary) LaMere of Anamosa and Donna (Steve) Forde of Marion; two sisters, Lois Redmond and Eleanor Spinsky, both of Racine, Wis.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant daughter, Janice; a brother, Reginald LaMere; and two sisters, Elaine David and Louise Azarian.
