Laiken Rose Hagerty, 10, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully with her beloved family by her side after a sudden and brief, but courageous battle with leukemia on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Services: 10:30 a.m. Frida, at Teahen Home by Penny Ackerman. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Family and friends are encouraged to wear bright colors to the visitation and funeral services to celebrate Laiken’s colorful and vibrant spirit.
Laiken is survived by her parents, Kirstin (John) and Justin (Lauren); two sisters, Lauren and Reese; grandparents, Robert and Barbara Hagerty, David and Suzanne Rose and Gary and Gail Van Rooyan; uncles and aunts, Jared (Carrie) Hagerty, Kara (Eric) Luett and Lance (Yvonne) Rose; cousins, Brody Hagerty, Michael and Kamryn Luett, Maddux and Ava Rose and Hudson Liddle; special family members, Rose and Charlie Clasen, Bill and Maria Kuper, Mac and Blake Haley and Ed and Lucy Perusse; her beloved cats and dog, Puff, Kiki and Ricky; and many close friends and neighbors whom she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, John and Joanna Hagerty, Harold and Lauralee Blake, H.W. and Charlotte Van Rooyan, Dean and Betty Wyant, Joe and Irene Rose.
Laiken Rose was born on March 20, 2012, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Justin and Kirstin Van Rooyan Hagerty. She recently completed the fourth grade at Jackson Elementary School. Laiken was a lover of animals (especially cats), cooking, conducting science experiments, swimming, and playing with slime and fidgets. Laiken and her sister Lauren enjoyed making TikTok videos and dancing. Laiken will be remembered for always being kind, showing empathy toward others and her willingness to help anyone. She had a heartwarming sense of humor and lived life with dramatic flair, sprinkling fairy dust wherever she went.
Laiken’s family would like to thank the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital doctors and nurses for their exceptional care.
Laiken’s family would like her legacy to continue on by reminding others to not only live like Laiken, but to live for her.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Laiken Hagerty Memorial Fund.
