Lafrenz, Walter
Walter Lafrenz, 88, of Lowden, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Zion United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Barbara Muhs officiating. Burial: Van Horn Cemetery, Lowden, with graveside military rites. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Born Feb. 25, 1922, in West Liberty, the son of Jacob and Sophia (Kroeger) Lafrenz, he married Nadine Dircks on Feb. 1, 1948, in Lowden. Walter served in the Army during World War II and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and the Lowden American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine; daughters, Julie (Joe) Evans of Cedar Rapids and Sara Johnston of Everton, Mo.; sons, Sam of Lowden and James (Beth) of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucille Hansen; and brother, LeRoy.
