Ladehoff, Glenn L.
Glenn L. Ladehoff, 81, of Washington, died peacefully Sunday, June 30, 2013, of Alzheimer's complications at Windmill Manor in Coralville. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Kalona Mennonite Church, located at 902 Sixth St. in Kalona. The family will greet friends following the service. Glenn's wish was to be cremated and his ashes scattered in a private family event later that evening near his childhood home.
Glenn was born Nov. 27, 1931, in Monticello, Iowa, to Fritz and Gladys (Horton) Ladehoff. The family moved to the West Chester area in 1937. Following graduation from West Chester High School in 1950, Glenn proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. On Aug. 14, 1955, he married Phyllis Statler and they made their home near West Chester for nearly 58 years.
Glenn worked for Kaser Corporation rock quarries for 24 years before taking over his father-in-law's farming operation in 1977. Glenn enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and shooting sports, and could build, fix or repair nearly anything. He was rarely found without his pocketknife and a set of vice grips in his pocket.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his children, Glenda (Jack) Seward and Mike (Terri) Ladehoff, all of West Chester; grandchildren, Tim (Hanna) McDowell, Shelby (Joe) Tarrence, Ian McDowell, Mallory Ladehoff, Jed (Kailee) Seward and Leah (Zach) Cornwell; great-grandchildren, Erica, Alyssa and Brett McDowell, Jaycee Tarrence, Raeghan Seward, and Jackson, Karsyn, Kennik, Kashlyn and Knox Cornwell; sisters-in-law, Marge Ladehoff of Aitkin, Minn., Janice Gibson of Washington and Joyce Hardy of Ottumwa; his mother-in-law, Mildred Statler of Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wayne Ladehoff; an infant sister; his son-in-law, John McDowell; his father-in-law, L.P. (Mutt) Statler; and his brother-in-law, Chuck Gibson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation toward furthering Alzheimer's research or to the charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Windmill Manor Care Center in Coralville and the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Iowa City for the care and compassion they showed to Glenn and his family throughout his Alzheimer's journey.
