LaBarr, Barbara Ruth
Barbara Ruth LaBarr, 81, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids, formerly of Rogers, Arkansas (1970-1999) passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010. At her request there is no visitation. Inurnment and services will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include a brother Robert (Loris) Carlson of Alcester, South Dakota, a sister Beth Carlson Helgoe of Edina, Minnesota, three sisters-in-law, Patricia Carlson of Arlington, Virginia, Mary Kidwell and Martha Lewis both of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and twenty- three nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert V. LaBarr, and a brother Rodney Carlson of Arlington, Virginia.
Barbara was born December 8, 1928 in Alcester, South Dakota, to Clarence E. and Gertrude Sedgwick Carlson. She was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. She married Robert Victor LaBarr on May 8, 1954 in Alcester, South Dakota. He died June 2, 1996. She was employed as an Information Technology Specialist for the Air Force, Veterans Administration, and the Department of Defense. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, needlepoint, and also volunteered for several local organizations.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Meth-Wick Foundation Education Endowment Fund, 1224 13th St. NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52405.
