L. Riley (Bratton) Forner passed away March 15, 2017. Despite her two-year struggle with cancer, Riley epitomized what it meant to live a life full of love and grace.
Riley was an amazing mother, wife and friend. Her sense of humor and vivacious personality drew everyone in, but her gentleness and compassion reminded us what could be if we strove to be our best.
In her lifetime, she had many hobbies and passions, including quilting, crafting, cooking, running, yoga and volunteering at her children's school and local nursing home with her beloved dog, Kate. She urged us all to care for animals in need, and volunteered on the board of her local SPCA. She added so much to life with her kindness and was known to gift her amazing quilts and homemade crafts to friends and causes dear to her heart. These included the University of Iowa's pediatric unit, Lincoln PTO, and many others.
Riley's good-hearted and joyful soul will be missed, but will continue to remind us to appreciate the laughter, love and small moments that life has to offer.
She is loved and remembered by her husband of 23 years, Patrick; their children, Sean Patrick and Claire Elizabeth; her mother, Mary (Conrad) Bratton of Pittsboro, N.C.; and her sister, R. Murray (Bratton) Bergman of Corpus Christi, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Bratton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Steven Witt officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Friends of the Animal Center Foundation or your local humane society.
