Kurth, Garold Arliss
Garold Arliss Kurth, 77, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at home in Loveland, Colo. He was born Jan. 13, 1933. in Hopkinton, Iowa. to Walter William and Marie B. (Bradke) Kurth.
Garold graduated in Iowa from Mechanicsville High School in 1950. Shortly after high school, he joined the U.S. Navy serving from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean conflict. Garold and two of his brothers served on the same naval ship together.
He was a member of VFW Post 41 and American Legion 301 as commander. Garold received a rare service medal from Colorado State Representative Marilyn Musgrave. Garold loved the outdoors, country western music, people, animals, dancing, fishing, hunting and frequented garage sales. He was a member of The Lutheran Church of Hope and was most commonly known for his work as “Santa” in many different places in Loveland.
Garold is survived by his loving wife, Waneta Kurth of Loveland; sons, John Kurth (Dawn) of Aurora, Colo., Lee Kurth of Masonville, Colo., and Paul Kurth (Noi) of Thailand; brother, Glenn Kurth (Betty) of Lisbon; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephen and Sarah; great-granddaughter, Jaleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Don, Dean and Harold; and sister, Lois.
The Kurth family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Susan Beck and Pathways hospice for all their support.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Lutheran Church of Hope. Viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Viegut Funeral Home. Interment at Resthaven Memory Gardens following services and reception at the Kurth home after burial from 3 to 5 p.m.
