Kunde Sr., Ernest 'Ernie' William
Funeral services for Ernest “Ernie” William Kunde Sr., 88, of Tipton, will be held Wednesday, March 10, at Fry Funeral Home, starting at 10:30 a.m., with visitation Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Tipton Masonic Cemetery, with military rites. Ernest died Saturday, March 6, at Cedar Manor in Tipton from a brief illness.
The son of William L. E. and Lucie C. (Stahl) Kunde, he was born Aug. 3, 1921, on the family farm near McCausland. He married Marian M. Amend in 1944 and they later divorced. He married Julia A. Cooper in 1971. He resided in the Tipton area all his adult life.
Mr. Kunde farmed and worked in a variety of agricultural-related jobs in his lifetime. He retired from Agricultural Building Services after 20 years of service. In his retirement he enjoyed his family, gardening, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and all things outdoors. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Tipton. He was a past commander of Bennett American Legion Post 104. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served during World War II. He was past commander and current chaplain of Tipton VFW Post 2537, having served in many capacities, including as a steadfast member of the Color Guard.
He is survived by his brother, Elmer (Delores) Kunde, Tipton; sister-in-law, Joanne (Ernie) Becker, Austin, Texas; daughters, Nancy (Larry) Koberg, Walcott, Connie (Shawn Taylor) Cox, Delhi, N.Y., Sandy (Dan Luettjohann) Kunde, Tipton, Linda Burrow, New Albia, and Marsha Nash and Sheila (Mike) Polman, West Liberty; sons, Gary (Marsha Solares) Kunde, Solon, Joseph (Lisa) Bromell, Moscow, Vernon (Kelly) Becker Jr., Raymore, Mo., and Ernest (Jaime) Kunde Jr., Eagle River, Alaska; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife, Julia; his parents; brother, Eugene; and brother-in-law and sister, Leonard and Wilma Schwitzer.
Memorials may be made to VFW Post 2537, Lions Club or Meals on Wheels.
