Kulhavy, William 'Bill'
William “Bill”Kulhavy, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Jonathan Oft presiding. Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday at Czech National Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 788. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
William was born Nov. 15, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William and Caroline Beatty Kulhavy. He served in Army Air Force during World War II. Bill married LaVerna “Lou” Stastny on April 7, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Bill worked at Pittsburgh Plate Glass and Cedar Rapids Glass as a glazier for many years until his retirement in 1989. Bill was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and School and served on many boards. In his retirement he worked at Jones Golf Course.
Bill is survived by his wife, Lou; his children, Nancy (Gary) Griffith of Solon, Suzanne (Scott) Woodward of Ely, and Bill (Lesta) Kulhavy of Marion; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandaughter; and his sisters, Alice Brammer of Colorado and Irene Smith of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in his name.
