Kula, Virgil A.
Virgil A. Kula, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral mass: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Catholic Church by the Rev. David Beckman. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
Survivors include his brothers, Robert Kula, Richard Kula, Ronald Kula and John Kula; sisters, Rosemary (Loren) Zaborotsky and Mary Jean (Dale) Muller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; brothers, LeRoy, Ray and Delbert; and sister, Vivian Rickels.
Virgil was born May 10, 1922, in rural Prairieburg, to Raymond and Emma Holub Kula, where he grew up to appreciate the farm life. He married Jean Hofferd on May 1, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. She died on Oct. 18, 2010. Virgil worked as a truck driver for Whitwer Company and then spent many years in the tire business for Baxter Motors, Brad Ragan and Sears. Virgil was an avid hunter and loved to hunt ducks and geese in Canada. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
