Kuehl, Eileen R.
Eileen R. Kuehl, 94, of Edgewood, formerly of Strawberry Point, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the United Methodist Church in Strawberry Point with Pastor Randy Moser officiating. Interment: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Eastside Cemetery in Elkader. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory in Strawberry Point and also one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church.
Eileen was born May 4, 1917, in Polk County, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Olga (Hitzeman) McNeal. She received her education in Elkport, graduating from Elkport High School.
On Aug. 22, 1940, Eileen was united in marriage to Ralph F. Kuehl at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Eileen and Ralph were blessed with two children, Neal (Karen) and Kathy (Gary) Reid.
Together they farmed for many years beginning at Motor Mill then moving to a couple of different farms in the Elkader area before moving to Strawberry Point in 1956. Eileen worked for many years at Camp EWALU as its baker.
Eileen and Ralph enjoyed traveling and camping. She had been a member of the Mountain Doers and the Good Sam Camping clubs. Eileen especially enjoyed family fishing trips to Minnesota. She was a wonderful cook and baker.
Eileen was an active member of the Strawberry Point United Methodist Church, making quilts for many charities. She also made many quilts for members of her family throughout the years.
Eileen is survived by two children, Neal (Karen) Kuehl of Storm Lake and Kathy (Gary) Reid of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Julie (Marty) Lange, Jeff (Cindy) Reid, Brad (Tracy) Kuehl and Michelle Janiak; and 10 great- grandchildren, Amber, Erin and Mylee Lange, Eastyn and Ayden Reid, Brandon, Tanner, and Miranda Kuehl and Jordan and Rachel Janiak; her brother, Ernest (Gerri) McNeal of Elkader; several nieces and nephews; and two brothers - in-law, the Rev. Gene Kuehl of Yucaipa, Calif., and the Rev. Lyle (Judy) Kuehl of Grinnell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph on Jan. 29, 2008; and her sister, Dorothy Rizer.
